Below are questions that we have been asked by our clients. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Q. How is the Hairloc system different from other hair extension systems?
A. We use only premium 100% full cuticle remi hair attached by a unique Hairloc system. We use no glue, heat, chemicals sewing or braiding which can harm your natural hair.
Q. What makes your method and Hair the best?
A. The Hairloc system is the best hair extension system for these reasons. It is the safest hair extension method for your natural hair, no damage occurs while installing or removing the copper locs. We use only the finest full cuticle remi 100% human hair from Europe, the hair looks and feels like your own hair. There are no bonding agents, sewing or braiding used in the installation of your hair extensions. The hair extensions are custom blended to match your natural hair exactly in terms of both texture and color.
Q. Will it blend with my natural hair?
A. Yes, with Brenda’s experience and talent your color and texture will match perfectly. We can even add highlights.
Q. How long will it last?
A. As your hair grows out (usually 2 to 3 months) a maintenance appointment will be necessary to move the hair extensions back to its original position. This procedure can be done over and over for a full year due to the high quality of the hair extensions we provide.
Q. Can you see or feel the locs?
A. This is the most comfortable hair extension system available. You will not see the attachment locs or feel any discomfort at all. In fact, you will not even know you have hair extensions in your hair other than the compliments you will receive.
Q. Will my partner be able to feel them?
A. The hair extensions are attached with a small copper tube that lies perfectly flat against your head. They are attached close to your scalp. You will both be able to feel the tube while running your fingers through your hair, but not when simply laying your hands over the hair, as in stoking or patting. You or your partner’s hands will move effortlessly through the length of your hair and will be identical in feel and color as your natural hair.
Q. Will my natural hair be damaged at all?
A. There is no damage to your natural hair no matter what your hair type is. Other systems that braid, sew, use glues or bonding agents to adhere the hair extension to your hair can leave your natural hair in poor condition. I have had many clients switch to the hair loc system because they have suffered extensive hair damage either because their previous hair extensions were sewn or braided too tightly or were attached with a bonding agent. The hair extension systems that use a bonding agent such as protein bonds, keratin, fusion etc. use an acetone remover to remove the hair extensions. This is basically nail polish remover, which definitely damages your natural hair and can lead to hair loss and breakage. Also, some the glues melt leaving your hair and the hair extension matted together.
Q. How are the hair extensions attached?
A. The hair extensions are attached to your natural hair using a small copper tube the same color as your roots. The tube is then crimped flat to hold your hair and the hair extension together. You are able to keep your hair extensions for approximately one year compared to other systems where you need to buy new hair extensions approximately every three to four months. At Hair Extensions of Houston, you will need maintenance appointments approximately every three months to move the locs back up to your scalp. The hair itself can be used over and over again for a year making this method more cost efficient over other systems.
Q. How are the extensions removed?
A. The hair extensions are removed with a small tool that opens the loc and your hair easily slips out, undamaged.
Q. Do I need to give my natural hair a rest from hair extensions occasionally?
A. No, you do not have to. Your natural hair will be in the same condition it was prior to getting hair extensions.
Q. In what lengths are hair extensions available?
A. Hair extensions can be anywhere from 8” to 34”. Most hair extensions installations use 8” to 22”.
Q. Can I just add volume to my natural hair?
A. Yes. I have many clients that like their hair to look and feel thicker instantly enhancing thin or lifeless hair. We can dramatically or add little volume depending on your needs.
Q. Can I color the hair extensions to match my hair if I change my hair color?
A. You can color the hair extensions a darker color than they are. I do not recommend lighting them because by the time the hair extensions reach the lighter color you want your hair may be damaged. If you try to lighten the hair extensions while they are not attached to your head the color will be very difficult to match. Therefore, I do not recommend using any lightning products at all. We would recommend you order new hair for the new color you want your hair to be.
Q. I am Afro-American and I perm my hair every three months. Can I still do this or do I have to remove the hair extensions and locs?
A. Yes you can continue perming your hair with the locs in. I have clients that do it regularly. If natural hair is very fine and usually breaks during the the perming process, you may want to go to a professional that can use a very mild solution. The hair extensions do not need to be touched by the solution. The best thing to do is to come in for your maintenance of the hair extensions, have them temporary removed, have our stylist perm your natural hair and then have your hair extensions reinstalled until your next maintenance and perming.
Q. My hair is highlighted? Can you match this?
A. Absolutely. I have the hair extensions custom blended to match your hair texture and color perfectly. I can add multiple highlights or lowlight colors as well as add volume or length to your highlighted hair. The look and color will be an exact match.
Q. How long does it take to have hair extensions installed?
A. This depends on how many hair extensions you need to attain the look you want. I will be able to give you a better idea at your consultation.
Q. I noticed a few strands of my hair came out during the maintenance. Was my hair damaged?
A. No. It is completely normal to lose between 75-100 strands of hair every day as part of re-growth. Because you now have hair extensions, some of your shedding hair may be trapped under the loc. When we remove the loc to move it back up to your scalp during the maintenance procedure you may notice your shedded hair come out now that they are free to fall. They are strands of hair that you would have lost over the past few months due to your natural renewal process.
Q. I have seen people with breakage from hair extensions. Will this system break my hair?
A. The hair loc system is the safest for our natural hair that is why we only use that system.
Q. I like to workout and swim a great deal. Will I be able to do these things with your hair extension system?
A. Yes, you will be able to enjoy all your normal activities. If you are swimming I do recommend that you braid your hair to insure there isn’t any tangling. As far as exercising, if you perspire a lot I recommend either washing your hair after to remove the oils that are present in perspiration or blow dry your scalp. This is to prevent the natural oils in your scalp from causing the hair extension locs from slipping.
Q. Can I use a hairdryer, flat iron, rollers, etc?
A. Yes, you can use all the hot tools that you are currently using providing your tools are not damaging your natural hair. We use 100% human hair of the finest quality for your hair extensions, so it can be styled like your natural hair. I recommend using the best quality ionic tourmaline iron and blow dryer. After all we do not want you to burn your natural hair or your beautiful new hair extensions.
Q. Can I let my hair dry naturally?
A. Yes, you can. You can crunch and let dry naturally. You have the same flexibility with our hair extensions as you do with your natural hair. One of the advantages is that hair extensions do not frizz in humid weather and actually controls your natural hair from frizzing. Most hair extensions come with a slight wave making it easy to wash and wear naturally. However, I can order perfectly straight hair or as curly as you want.
Q. I have lost a lot of hair due to surgery/pregnancy. What can be done?
A. I will have to see your hair to answer that question, but I have successfully helped many people with hair loss problems.
Q. How much does it cost to have hair extensions?
A. The cost depends on how many hair extensions are needed and the length to obtain the look you want. During the consultation, I will have a chance to see your hair, the size if your head and then we can discuss the look you want and how many hair extensions you will need to achieve the look you are after. At that time a quote will be given to you.
