A Guide to Taking Care of Your Hair Extensions After the Holidays

A Guide to Taking Care of Your Hair Extensions After the Holidays

Let’s face it; we’ve all been there. Partied too hard over the holidays and ended up with a shot of tequila splashed over our hair that we didn’t bother washing until the next evening.

Fun, right?

Not so much for our hair.

If you went hard over the holidays and want to give your extensions some sweet TLC just in time for New Year’s, we’ve got you covered.

Read on for Extension Rescue 101 and find out how you can nurse your locks back to life with these simple steps.

1. Steer Clear of Toxic Products

Toxic Products

One of the easiest ways of taking care of your extensions and avoiding further damage is by using gentle, non-toxic products. Stay away from products that contain parabens, triclosan, SLS, SLESS, alcohol, PEGs, phthalates and synthetic colors. Read more on which ingredients can be detrimental for your hair extensions for thin hair Houston and avoid them altogether.

Once you toss these toxins, you’ll physically feel the difference as your high quality hair extensions Houston will feel more manageable, soft and sleek.

2. Use the Right Brush!

Brushes with harsh, non-uniform and unsealed bristles can wreak havoc on your extensions. Use a gentle, custom brush that won’t tug on your extensions or cause unnecessary damage. The HEH Brush is the best brush in the world for extensions because of its long, sturdy yet gentle bristles that thoroughly untangle hair without causing breakage.

Alternatively, you can also use a wide-toothed comb for thick hair texture and tight curl pattern.

It’s also important to ensure that you brush your extensions gently. Start from the bottom and work your way upwards to avoid putting pressure on mid-length tangles. It also goes without saying that you should NEVER brush your extensions while they’re wet.

3. Nourish Your Extensions

Nourish Your Extensions

Just like moisturizing your face, moisturizing your extensions will make all the difference in ensuring their health, vitality and suppleness. This is especially important if you want to make up for lost time and pamper your extensions after not really giving too much of a damn about them (hello, tequila shot!).

Like everything, do this in moderation and don’t go overboard. Rub a few drops of almond, coconut or argan oil between your palms and run them through the length of your extensions. This will not only add immediate shine and life to your extensions, but it will also protect them from long-term damage.

4. Dry Your Extensions the Right Way

Blow-drying your extensions is tantamount to committing one of the seven deadly sins. We’re serious.

As opposed to using heat to style your hair—which cannot be avoided sometimes—using heat to dry your hair is so unnecessary, we could cry. Always air-dry your extensions and use a micro-fiber towel afterwards to prevent damage and roughness caused by regular towels.

5. Never Skip Heat Protection

While we don’t condone blow-drying your hair for the mere purpose of drying it, we understand that your styling woes may get out of hand sometimes. It’s okay if you’re craving a certain look and feel like curling your extensions for a night out. While we don’t recommend this, using heat protection is a MUST.

Our Loma Nourishing Oil protects extensions from up to 450 degrees of heat damage and is perfect for days when you absolutely need a set of bombshell waves to complete your look.

If your holiday damage was beyond repair and you feel like personal TLC won’t suffice, give us a call. Our expert hair extensions team at HEH will take care of the rest.
